Ham radio has changed over the years...Do you still build antenna's, or do you buy a commercial product?

WA5RAY Me and my Ham TV

I found most all this stuff on ebay and figured it might make a neat ATV station. Being a Tech only, I have to stay above 50MHz. I have a Kenwood 570S so I do listen in the low bands, but my operation is mostly 2m and 70cm.
I also do radio astronomy and have a 12ft (3m) TV-RO dish fitted with a 1.4Ghz feed. you can see the dish at: http://www.rayz.com/seti/

What's it going to take to get a geosynchronous ham satellite? In a word, MONEY! Paying for the launch would cost megabucks, well beyond AMSAT's (or even ARRL's) present or foreseeable resources. The days of free launches are long gone, especially to high orbits. w2rs@arrl.net

DXCC Status
A contributor states, "Currently there are only two countries that do not issue Amateur Radio licenses to their citizens, Yemen and North Korea. Thousand of deserving Ham's worldwide who enjoy working DX are shut out of any hope of obtaining the #1 Top of the Honor Roll status due to this. It would seem rational that these two countries (and any others who take a similar position) should be deleted from the official DXCC list in view of this. Why recognize a country on the DXCC list that does not recognize Amateur Radio? What say you?"

I'm currently in my third round of activity as a ham. Station includes an Icom IC-756 Pro, an IC-910h VUF/UHF all mode rig, a Kenwood TM-V7A 2m/70cm rig for Packet, a Yeasu FT-290rII 2m All-mode, an Icom IC-37A 220mhz rig and a rigblaster pro and a AEA PK-900 for the digital modes. Also have a Uniden BC895-XLT Scanner. Have a couple of Kenwood TH-28a HT's, a Yeasu VX-R5 HT and a FT-290rII Portable 2m All mode for field work.
Computer is only 1 ghz but has almost a gig of RAM. Nice station, but I'm now in a condo so the VHF/UHF antenna farm is in the attic along with an AH-4 tuned rain-gutter for HF. No more QRO for me!
